GOAL

Learn how to operate a mobile crane safely and effectively.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Employees who have to work with a mobile crane. 

ECOL stands for European Crane Operator Licence. ECOL was established by ESTA, the European Association of Abnormal Road Transport and Mobile Cranes, to become the standard within Europe as a uniform certificate for crane operators.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum age of 18 years;
  • Valid certificate of medical fitness;
  • Driving licence C;
  • Basic knowledge of English.

COURSE

Training: 

  • ECOL-6   less than 4 years of experience: 31 days (6 weeks) 
  • ECOL-3   between 4 and 8 years of experience: 16 days (3 weeks) 
  • ECOL-1   more than 8 years of experience: 6 days (1 week) 
  • ECOL-R  renewal for 5 years: 2 days

Examination: 1 day, including English language test.
Language: Dutch / English

CONTENT

  • Role and responsibility of a crane operator;
  • Preparation for work;
  • Transport and manoeuvres;
  • Preparation of work on site;
  • Putting the crane into operation;
  • Performing lift work;
  • Finishing the job;
  • Knowledge and skills: safety and health;
  • Using a mobile crane for its intended purpose.

VALIDITY CERTIFICATE

The certificate is valid for 5 years. The certificate can be renewed if all conditions are met:

  • Following two intermediate training days (ECOL-R) of which the first training day falls in the first 36 months of the period and the second training day falls after a period of 36 months.
  • During these 5 years, a minimum of 2500 hours on the crane, of which at least 500 hours must fall within the last 2 years.
  • Completions of the ECOL skillrecord

As long as the crane operator continues to meet the requirements every 5 years, the certificate can be renewed at any time.
